At our old apartment, I was obsessed by birds and butterflies. At our new place, I've become obsessed by boats.

This is just after sunrise and there is already a fishing skiff, a dragon boat on a training run, and a police patrol boat in the distance, heading home after the night watch.

The patrol boat sits all night in Tai Tam bay to watch for smugglers from mainland China. It is one of six Keka class patrol boats that the Hong Kong police have in their fleet. The Keka class was designed by ASC Pty. Ltd., which used to be called the Australian Submarine Corporation. ASC originally designed the boat for the Royal Thai Navy. This one, Patrol Launch 64, was built by Hong Kong's Cheoy Lee Shipyard in 2005.

It's there every morning until about 7 a.m. when it glides away.

These fishermen arrive almost every morning at dawn, putting out gill nets.

And this is one of a fleet of sea cleaners that the Hong Kong government operates in the territory's waters. They collect floating debris - about 14,000 tons a year.
