Turkish Delight

Anna brought Turkish Delight back from Istanbul. It is a gelatinous sweet invented by a Turkish confectioner in the 18th century, later imported to Britain under the name Turkish Delight from whence it became a fashionable delicacy among the upper class.

I've always liked it, especially when it is fresh and soft.

Anna didn't take many pictures. These are from her phone. This is the view from her hotel looking at one end of Taksim Square. There were protests met by riot police and teargas while she was there.

The square and its neighboring park have been the focus of demonstrations since May, originally over redevelopment of the park but more generally over the increasingly Islamist bent of the current government.
