Butterfly Eggs

I spent a few hours at a butterfly reserve in the New Territories, having gotten interested in the butterflies around our home.

I met a very interesting guy who goes by the name Hydrogen Pun (pronounced 'Poon') who is a butterfly expert. He has grown and photographed all the stages of more than 200 species of butterflies in his small apartment. He took the photographs above of various butterfly eggs, which he collected in the wild in order to raise them at home. The eggs are the size of a pin head or smaller.

We took a walk through the reserve and he showed me various eggs with a jeweler's loop as well as caterpillars, chrysalises and, of course, butterflies. There are 204 species in the reserve's 7 square acres.
