Night Gym
True took me to the American Club gym tonight after Anna left for Manchester.
His school has a wonderful program whereby much of each student's Physical Education grade is determined by what the school calls 'independent fitness.'
Students can basically guarantee an A if they work out for a designated number of half hour sessions during each quarter.
They wear a watch that records their heart rate, which is transmitted by a heart rate monitor strapped to their chest. They need to maintain a target heart rate for thirty consecutive minutes.
Of course, kids end up with the sessions piled up at the end of each quarter, but they can only claim credit for two sessions a day.
It is a great incentive to exercise and, of course, exercise is habit forming - though it's a habit I've never developed myself.
