Moosilauke, Goodbye

At the end of July, Sky and I drove up to New Hampshire to pick True up from camp. He looked great and was very happy to see us.

It's a beautiful place, spread out beside Lake Moosilauke.

True has spent four summers there. This was his last as a camper because he is now too old. He has the option of returning as a counselor in training.

He showed us around. This is where he would get his mail, including a steady stream of comic books and letters that Anna sent year after year.

We walked up to his cabin to collect his things. He stopped to toss a pebble into a hollow tree stump along the stream - a camp tradition. A mound of stones has built up around the stump over the years because it's quite hard to hit.

He took us on a short cut through the trees.

He had quite a cozy cabin this year.

He relaxed one last time on his bunk. It reminded me of my own boyhood.

True was quite spirited even though this was his last day at camp.

We saw a plaque the boys had made to commemorate their summer.

The tour continued.

We visited the dining hall. Through the door is the tea station where True would get his morning mug of tea.

Then it was time to head back down the hill and say goodbye.
