Shanghai Night
This is taken from a hotel lobby on the 87th floor of the Shanghai Financial Center, China's tallest building. I was at the groundbreaking in 1997 where I met Minoru Mori, the Japanese building tycoon who owns it.
The large building in the foreground is the Jin Mao Tower, which was built while we were living in Shanghai.
In the background to the right of the Jin Mao is the Pearl Tower, built in the early 1990s.
In the background to the left of the Jin Mao is the Bund, Shanghai's famous prewar waterfront with the Customs House clock tower - one of the tallest buildings when I first visited Shanghai in 1980, now dwarfed by everything.
