Guangzhou

I was in Guangzhou for a few days to attend a conference. China never ceases to amaze me. I had not been to Guangzhou for ten years and it was a grimy, congested, poorly planned city then. It has been reborn as a beautiful, clean, well-organized metropolis.

I was taken to see Swan Lake at the new Guangzhou Opera House. It was performed by the Imperial Russian Ballet - which is a new ballet company, despite its name, formed in 1994 by a former Bolshoi dancer.

I was in the second row and the performance was wonderful.
