The other day in Beijing, I had a 'jidan guanbing' sandwich - two egg filled fried pancakes smeared with fermented bean paste and hot sauce and eaten with lettuce in between. They are made on the street and are delicious on a cold winter day.

The same day while out walking with Binglan, we stopped and bought a couple sweet potatoes from a woman who was selling them from a big oil drum oven. There used to be a vendor that sold these in the alley behind our apartment building in Shanghai.

The sweet potatoes are hot and moist and yellow inside. Also nice on a cold day.
