Beijing Office

This is the route, outlined in red, from my apartment in Beijing to my office there. The walk takes about two minutes. The company's office space is outlined in red.

Beijing has changed dramatically - almost completely in many ways - from what it was in the 1980s. It is much more urban now, much more modern. In another 20 years, the vestiges of its Communist-era past will be all but gone. I miss the old Beijing.

This is the office floorplan before renovation. We have 450 square meters, one floor above the offices of our Chinese partners. My office is in the square that extends beyond the triangular space at the top of the floorplan.

This is what the main space looked like in October, before renovation.

This is from roughly the same angle, showing what the newsroom looks like now.

This is from another angle, before renovation ...

... and from the same angle after. My office is beyond the office with the red wall at the far end of this photo.

The outer office with the red wall is for our Chinese partners when they are around.

The interior office is mine. It's spacious and quiet, separated from the newsroom.

One wall is covered in glass so I can draw on it during meetings.
