Perfect Saturday

We had a wonderful, full day on Saturday.

Anna and I started it with a long hike.

We were going to meet friends hiking north from the south part of the island.

It was an exhausting climb over the peak we look out at from our apartment windows. But it was mostly downhill or level from there - at least, for me. Anna turned back about halfway and went back up over the peak because she wanted to get brunch ready.

Hong Kong is a beautiful island.

The views from the tops of its peaks are breathtaking.

Although much of the coastline is densely populated, the hills are mostly empty.

I met the friends and by the time I got back with them to our apartment complex, I had been walking for three hours. We went immediately to the pool, which was bright blue and crisp and cool. Anna and Sky and True and some other friends were already there.

After a swim, we went upstairs to a wonderful brunch that Anna had prepared: Spanish omelets, crepes with homemade apricot compote, fresh fruit with Greek yoghurt and honey. It was great.

That evening we met our friends again for dinner at a Thai restaurant on Deep Water Bay, one of the loveliest bays on the island.

The restaurant set a torch-lit table for us on the beach. There was a full moon. The food was terrific.

Then we went into town for a drink at a popular bar on the roof of the Prince's Building with Hong Kong's brightly lit office buildings towering around us.

We had a very nice time.
