Pirates

This is one of my favorite pictures of True. It was taken about three years ago in the suburbs west of Paris at the birthday party of one of his friends, Ali, a Pakistani boy who has since moved to the Philippines. Ali and True were co-founders of the "Ol' Buddy, Ol' Pal Club," which endured for at least a year after Ali left with True as "Buddy No. 1" at its head. Ali's mother had made the boys pirate gear and here True is giving a piratical "aargh!" to the camera. The boy behind him is Ichechi, who has since returned to Nigeria. True's best friend at the time, Cameron, is in the background in orange. He now lives in Britain.
